Lauren’s Lavender Farm offers you a range of local activities including an amazing bush walk down to the famous Whanganui River where the Taumarunui Jet Boat and canoeists call in for some food and a nice hot coffee.
There are 87 steps down to the landing on the river and two lovely waterfalls.
Experience the feeling of being adjacent to the might Whanganui River where years ago the famous Hatrick’s River Boats frequented the river and travelled from Wanganui through to Taumarunui past what is now Laurens Lavender Farm.
The river was the only access in those days and the house boats ran the final stretch of the river through to Taumarunui.
Also at night on our walkway there are glowworms.
The track was made by Scott one of the owners and only takes about 10 minutes to walk down to the River.
Forgotten World Highway
Laurens Lavender Farm is situated on SH43 15kms south of Taumarunui on the 155km stretch of road called the Forgotten World Highway.
The Stratford – Taumarunui Forgotten World Highway was established in 1990 to provide travellers with an opportunity to learn about the history of the bush clad hills that separate the towns of Stratford and Taumarunui.
The beauty of the Forgotten World Highway is astounding and a very good reference site is located here that includes all the attractions along the 155km journey.
Forgotten World Adventures – Rail Carts

Te Maire Track
A couple of minutes north of Laurens Lavender Farm on SH43 is the Te Maire Road turnoff to the Te Maire Track. The walk is just on 2 hours in length and wanders through moss-covered bush, which is fairly dense but pleasant.
Board walks are provided across boggy areas and the track starts by crossing a stream via a swing bridge and meanders up towards a lookout at the top that has since overgrown from views but a good half way point to stop and take in the surroundings.
The track is well cut out and suitable for families and a short drive from Laurens Lavender Farm where you can return to the Café for an afternoon cup of coffee and cake.
